#32 Klang, Selangor

Image
District: Klang, Selangor Towns in the district:  Klang city, Port Klang, Pandamaran, Kapar, Meru, Bandar Sultan Sulaiman, Batu Empat, Bukit Kemuning, Telok Menegun Last time I was there: July 2025 The story: Mention Klang to many people and usually the not-so-good stereotypes will quickly come up. But one fine day in July 2025, I decided to drive over for something different -- culture, history and a little rediscovery. Yes, you read that right. Haha. Our first stop was the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery . This beautiful colonial-era building preserves the rich history of the Selangor Sultanate -- from the personal artefacts of the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah to collections of old photographs, official attire and royal regalia. Walking through its halls felt like stepping into another era, one filled with heritage, royal traditions and stories that helped shape Selangor itself. After some makan and driving around, it was finally time for the highlight of the day. We ...

#31 Kampar, Perak

Image
District:   Kampar, Perak Towns in the district:   Kampar, Gopeng , Chenderiang , Temoh , Banir , Ayer Kuning , Mambang Di Awan , Kampung Kinjang , Malim Nawar , Kuala Dipang Last time I was there:  January 2021 The story: One of my favourite drives is taking the old trunk road from Tanjong Malim all the way to Ipoh . It’s always a relaxing journey -- passing charming old towns, stretches of greenery, and landscapes that somehow make you slow down and appreciate the ride a little more. On one trip, we made a stop in Kampar -- specifically at Kampar Disney Avenue . Yes, that quirky attraction that went viral many moons ago. And honestly, it lived up to the reputation. The colourful buildings made for great photo spots, but at the same time, the place had this strange “twilight zone” feel to it. There’s even a hotel beside it called Champs Élysées , which somehow adds to the surreal, almost theme-park-like atmosphere of the whole place. Launched in 2012 on a 100-acre forme...

#30 Langkawi, Kedah

Image
District:   Langkawi, Kedah Towns in the district:  Ayer Hangat, Bohor, Kedawang, Kuah, Padang Matsirat, Ulu Melaka Last time I was there: November 2021 The story: Ah, Langkawi. Another destination I’ve enjoyed equally for business and pleasure. Back in the good old Media Prima days, the island was one of our favourite retreat and brainstorming spots. We spent many days there cracking our brains, trying to come up with the next big revenue-generating hit — while also sneaking in some well-deserved R&R by the beach, halal mojitos in hand. Haha. But the last time I visited Langkawi with the family was about 10 years ago, and it turned out to be such a lovely little getaway. Our 3D2N trip was packed with all the fun must-dos. There was a visit to this fascinating visual museum (the name escapes me now), plenty of relaxing moments at a hotel blessed with fantastic views and truly memorable sunrises, plus some wonderfully indulgent food advent...

#29 Sepang, Selangor

Image
District: Sepang Towns in the district:  Bandar Sepang, Bandar Baru Bangi, Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, Bandar Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Sepang , Bandar Sungai Merab, Pekan Dengkil, Pekan Salak, Pekan Sungai Pelek etc Last time I was there: Just last week! (April, 2026) The story: Two things come to mind when Sepang is mentioned: the airport and the F1 circuit. Ah yes -- the Malaysian Grand Prix . Looking back, it still feels surreal how my own F1 journey began... and ended. In 1999, when Formula 1 first arrived in Sepang, I was freelancing alongside my day job and somehow landed the cover story for the now-defunct KLIA magazine . That came with a press pass -- and suddenly, I was right in the middle of history. Everything felt new. The buzz was electric. The season itself was already dramatic: Michael Schumacher returning from injury, Eddie Irvine leading Ferrari , and Mika Häkkinen chasing the title. By the time F1 reached Sepang for the penultimate race, the stage was perf...
